Dear Members, Parents, and Friends:

1.  BACK TO SCHOOL--YIPPEEEE!!!

As you all know, August marks the end of yet another fun-filled summer and, more importantly, the beginning of a new, exciting and challenging school year.  However, along with the opening of school comes responsibility.  Sensei and your Senpais are depending on all our school-aged children to become role models and leaders for the rest of your classmates.  Teach others to become a special person like yourself by setting a good example.  Exercise the principles of the Dojo Kun daily: 1) Seek perfection of character, 2) Be faithful, 3) Endeavor, 4) Respect others, and 5) Refrain from violent behavior.

At HSK misbehavior and disrespect are not tolerated, whether it be at the dojo, at home, or at school.  We will be checking on our members and their performance in school through regular school reports, our first coming about three weeks into September.

As always, HSK will recognize all students who have earned school-wide awards (HSK Superstars), as well as those students, grades 7 through 12, who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average each semester (HSK Scholars).

ALWAYS BE THE BEST THAT YOU CAN BE

2.       KAPUNAHALA CLEAN-UP

Kapunahala Elementary School (Kaneohe dojo) has requested help for its clean-up project, scheduled for Saturday, August 3.  HSK has decided to meet as a group at the school at 1 pm to give them a hand.  Please remember to sign in and wear your club shirts.  All Kaneohe parents and older members are asked to help out with this event.  Also, any adult from our other branches is welcome to participate.  Just help as long as you can, whether it be two or three hours.

CMON HSK!  SHOW YOUR HELPING SPIRIT!!!

4.   YELLOW/BLUE EXAM

For all of you who are white, yellow, or first blue, your next chance at a higher rank is just around the corner.  The yellow/blue belt exam is scheduled for Saturday, September 14.   Deadline for exam forms and fee is Thursday, September 12.  Reminder:  A late fee will be charged for all forms turned in after this date!  The exam will begin promptly at 9 am.  Those taking the exam should be at Noelani by 8:45 am.

Exam forms will be available soon.  If you are planning to take the exam, make sure you train hard and make an extra effort to be at each practice.  Remember, you must get approval from one of your Senpais in order to take the exam, so they will be watching you closely to see if you are ready.

5.    RANK REMINDER

As a reminder, HSKs policy on ranking for the purpose of ensuring that the quality of karate remains consistent, is as follows:  any member who has been inactive for more than one (1) year will be required to retest for their last officially earned rank, or be demoted one colored belt level.
