CLUB PARTY  September 6, 2025

Despite audio and video problems, HSK's 42nd anniversary party at the Moililili Hongwanji was a HUGE success!  GREAT company, scrumptuous pupus and desserts donated by our colored belts, AWESOME skits put on by our green, purple, and brown belts, and a yummy dinner buffet highlighted the evening's excitement!  A PERFECT way to celebrate HSK's 42nd anniversary!

Sensei talked about the rich history of HSK, and put together the 10th,15th, and 20th anniversary videos to give our members a glimpse into the past, and the many events and activities that were held. These included annual picnics, tournaments, beach trainings, hikes, camps, ice skating, fishing, sports day at Manoa gym, Christmas and club parties, and many others. 

He recognized past members who have returned to HSK for more.  Heather McCoy Muraoka trained with Senpai Remy in 1984 as a 6-year-old, and now trains with her two sons, Nelson and David.  Keith Ayano trained in 1992.  Something at HSK MUST attract him, as he keeps coming back for more!  Craig and Cindy Inenaga and daughter JC trained in 1995, and now come to cheer on JC's daughter Chloe!  Sensei also mentioned that many of our members competed in local, national, and international karate tournaments -- and did VERY well!!   

He then thanked Mike Ng and Jim White for their efforts in keeping HSK "alive" through the COVID crisis.  They encouraged Sensei to start Zoom classes, which kept HSK going for two years before moving to Manoa Japanese Language School for in-person classes.

Finally, he thanked wife Paula for her "time, patience, understanding, sacrifice, and love for me and HSK.  She is the most selfless person I know, and has been THE answer to HSK's success through these, so far, 42 years -- and THE reason that we are all here tonight!"
