Self Defense Techniques

September 29, 2020

Without a doubt, 2020 has been the most stressful and depressing year of my 72-year life! COVID-19, racial tensions (riots, looting, murders), global warming (hurricanes and wild-fires), and a completely inept and self-serving White House and Congress have been the perfect ingredients for disaster!

Yet, through all this turmoil there HAS been a glimmer of hope and light! For many, MANY years I have wanted to document HSK’s development of karate in the modern world. After 53 years in the martial arts, I have FINALLY started! In my youth, I always brushed the idea aside, thinking I had LOTS of time. Now, at 72, I am realizing that the time is running out!

Just this year I began to tape and post on our website many of the katas of the Japan Karate Association. Additionally, I added a kata that I created called Seki no Kyukyoku, or “Sekiguchi’s Ultimate” and a weapons kata called Seki no Nunchaku, which I also created many years ago.

Recently, I began to tape, edit and post a series of self-defense techniques that, once again, I had created many years ago. Although I regret not doing all this sooner, I am hopeful that our members will understand and appreciate the thought, effort, and love that I have invested in this incredible Art!!!

These eight self-defense techniques focus on attacks that are most often committed. There are three basic attacks: straight punch to the face, hook punch to the face, and kick to the stomach followed by a straight punch to the face. Click on any attack below to view the video.
